Bromsgrove District Council yesterday (17th Aug 2020) confirmed that this year’s event will not be taking place.

The annual event, held at Sanders Park, has been called off to comply with the Government’s safety measures around Coronavirus.

Bromsgrove Bonfire Extravaganza, attracts thousands of visitors each year and the vast scale of it means that officers have to start planning weeks in advance.

Alternatively, the Bromsgrove District Council’s Events Team has been looking in to planning other entertainment and events, like the recent drive-in cinema, which meet the social distancing rules.

It is unlikely that thousands of people will be allowed to congregate in one area. – Cllr Phillip Thomas.

Cllr Phillip Thomas, The Council’s Portfolio-holder stated, ”

Of course we may see a change in the guidance between now and November, but it’s unlikely that thousands of people will be allowed to congregate in one area.

“While we know the event is extremely popular, we have had to put the safety of our residents and staff first and so made the tough decision to cancel it for this year.

“Our team will be concentrating on creating other events which can be enjoyed safely.”

Cllr Adrian Kriss also added that it is a shame that the event is to be cancelled, although understandable. Cllr Kriss hopes we see the return of Bromsgrove Bonfire Extravaganza next year.

Meanwhile, The Drive-In Cinema, is on from Aug 21-23. Click here for details or to book tickets
